Science Finally Reveals That Men Mature Slower Than Women
We’ve heard this argument that men are childish regardless of how old they get and that even in their 30s they could behave like children. But, is there any scientific truth behind this statement or ones like them? How fast do boys and girls mature and which group matures faster?
This debate has been going on for ages and we haven’t yet found a suitable answer. Some say it is true while others say it is not. Science has finally come up with an answer to this question to put our minds at ease.
1Maturity in humans
Humans, like every living organism on this planet, evolve as we grow older. This comes in the form of physical as well as mental. Our body and mind changes as we grow up. This shows the signs of maturity. Both men and women grow through this when we’re kids. But, do we go through it at the same time?
We all learned in biology class about puberty. Boy and girls hit puberty and our bodies change. Physically we see changes and mentally we become more understanding and aware. It is also the time we get sexually active and our reproductive organs began to function to their full capabilities. This often happens around the ages of 10-16 for both genders.
This is where the question arises and the difference between males and females are made. Do girls mature faster than males or do we both do it at the same age? To answer this question a study was conducted by the University of Oxford. They examined the brains of 121 participants who were all between the ages of 4 and 40.
4How did they conduct the study?
They used brain mapping to understand the development of the participant’s brains for the study. They made a table to see at what age which brain function was developed in which gender. They kept a track of all the data they collected from all their participants based on age and gender.
5The study revealed
The study showed that both the brains of the males and females matured at the same time to operate daily life. But they did notice that certain capabilities in the male’s brain were developed later than the female’s one. In the male brain, they saw that it prolonged the development of functional networks as compared to the female brain.
