Important Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Bribe Your Child with Tablets or Devices to Stop Them Crying
We may be living in an advanced technology-driven world but as good and perfect as it may seem, technology has its disadvantages. Its influence and impact on kids especially is bad to say the least and children everywhere are now habituated to spending hours glued to electronic devices to the point of forgetting what it means to be a kid anymore. Can devices and children co-exist without technology being detrimental to a child’s development? The answer is negative obviously when we see how addicted children have become to such things.
1Should we pacify our children with devices?
For many kids around the world electronic devices are just one of the things in their lives, it’s the only thing in life. Now the big question remains is that should we give in and bribe our kids with allowing them to play with the tablets or Smartphone just to stop them crying? Is it worth it? There are many parents who do so and turn a blind eye to the bad influence and ill-effects of such gadgets on the social and mental development of children. Here’s why you should never bribe children with electronic devices just to stop them crying or acting up.
2It is the first step towards addiction
When your kids are young and you start giving them your electronic devices to play with to keep them occupied that is the first step towards addiction. Later on they will demand it and even start crying incessantly till you relent. In fact, even if your child isn’t habituated to such things, giving it to them as a means to make them stop crying is the most dangerous thing you can do for your child’s development.
3They start getting distressed
Doctors say that parents find it hard to understand how crucial social media is to children and today’s modern playground is a virtual one. Once when electronic devices start exerting more influence over behavior than anything else, children start getting more and more distressed and anxious when the technology is removed from them. Once this starts happening, you need to start making changes.
4They get dependent
Once you start giving a crying child a device to keep quiet, the dependence on technology increases. For such children, its how they feel when using such items is the issue. If a child isn’t addicted, they will get a kick out of many things besides technology but if a child starts displaying signs of anxiety and severe distressed or may appear agitated when separated from a device, that is an unhealthy dependence. Thus giving such devices is like a hit to a drug user.
5They will grow up spoilt and wanting their own way
When you give an electronic device to a child, you may be contributing to a type of behavior that borders on selfishness and getting what they want. When a child learns they can get a device when they cry, then not only does the child become dependent on the device, they may also start demanding more expensive stuff and will never grow up to be socialized.
