5No one wants a horde of polar bears roaming in the village

The practice itself is a smart one. Being a village where the whiff of whale meat is constantly hovering in the air will undoubtedly attract polar bears. Who wants dangerously large Hungry polar bears hovering around the village? No child or human would venture outside. This is the safest way where polar bears attracted to the meat are kept at a safe distance.

6A tradition for centuries

The other reason for feeding polar bears is because people in such areas always learn to co-exist with such animals, especially the polar bear which is like a spirit animal of the region. The practice of feeding them is like paying homage to the bears and has been observed traditionally for thousands of years.

7Everyone’s happy

If there is no whale harvest, then the polar bears would have to wait for the sea to freeze so they can begin hunting seals instead. The villagers are safe and the polar bears have got it going good, so everybody’s happy especially Fat Albert.

8Yet fat Albert does not hold the record

But did you know, even at 679 pounds which makes Fat Albert one whopping and massive polar bear, he is still not the record holder of fatty bears. The largest polar bear ever was in 1960 that who weighed 2,209 pounds, or 1001 kg.

The reason why Albert looks muddy is from living in areas with more soil and dirt since that keeps him close to the blubber. The dirt and soil has discolored his white fur. Take a look at another bear that was spotted in Manitoba Churchill, called the polar bear capital of the world. Now he is also a real chubby guy but not as big as our hero, Fat Albert.
