Meet the Chubbiest Overweight Polar Bear Nicknamed Fat Albert by Locals in Alaska
Polar bears are big and huge, with an average adult weighing around 450 kg and all that mass is acquired from feasting on seals, smaller prey and whale blubber left by whalers. But then meet one particular polar bear that has become an internet sensation all because ED Broudeau a professional photographer happened to be at the right spot at the right time. Meet the chonky chubby and fattest polar bear you will have ever seen, Fat Albert.
1Meet fat Albert
This cute but very overweight polar bear seen in the town of Katovik in Alaska, USA has been named Fat Albert. While it can be agreed that a photo usually adds more weight to an object, then there must have been quite a number of cameras on this guy because he weighs a whopping 679 kg meaning he weighs 10 stone more than an average bear.
2How did he get so fat?
But why is fat Albert such a huge and chunky looking polar bear and why does he look grey and not white like most bears n the wild? Well, there is a valid reason for that too. In fact, he weighs much over and above the average polar bear. Here’s the reason why he got so fat.
3He is often seen on the outskirts of the village
As Photographer Ed Boudreau explains, the village of Katovik in Alaska Where Albert can be seen roaming around is a whaling village and there is plenty of whale blubber available. When villagers harvest a whale, they will cut out large pieces of meat blubber and even haul it for miles. They then place it in an area for polar bears to find which is their way of respecting the animals.
4Fat Albert is a bear with brain and brawn
It seems Fat Albert is one smart polar bear who may have been just waiting for the blubber to arrive and then gorging on it. Obviously, it is this daily feast of whale blubber that has made him now weigh 679 kg. Villagers also observe this tradition for two reasons says ED.
