Many of us have had the unfortunate luck of getting jobs that require us to travel while many of us just like travelling in general. But not everyone has a power bank that they can use to charge up their phones and we need our phones for information as well as entertainment.

Seeing this issue, many airports and cafés have introduced USB charging stations. All you need to do is carry a cable and in some places even a cable is present. So, all you do is plug your phone in and it starts charging. But did you know you’re risking loss of your personal information?

1Charging our phones on the go

We live in a world where our phones have become super important for us and have to carry them with us everywhere we go. Unfortunately, they don’t come with huge batteries and do require charging. Another unfortunate thing is that most people don’t carry a power bank with them and have to use the charging stations that are placed in airports and cafes.

2What to do when we travel?

Traveling is an important part of our lives. It can be as simple as commuting to and from work and as complex as flying to a different country or city. Regardless, in all this, we need our phones, tablets, etc. So when we have to take a really long flight and don’t have a power bank we resort to using the charging stations in the airports to juice up our phones or tablets before boarding.

3Is it safe?

Till a few years ago using these outlets was considered to be safe but now the authorities are warning us to not use them. Recently it was discovered that hackers are using these outlets to gain access to your phone and steal your personal data. They do this as the phone is connected via cable to the outlet but we do not see where the wires inside the outlet are going to.

4Cybercriminals are after your data

Take a look at your phone and you will realize what a goldmine it is for all your private data. From all your important e-mails to your social media accounts, and even your credit card information if you used it to purchase something via your phone. All this is on your phone and hackers and cybercriminals are after it.

5How can they get your data?

If you connect your phone via data cable to any device like your laptop or pc you will get a prompt on your phone asking you what you would like to do. This was added so that the user or owner of the phone couldn’t have their data accessed without their knowledge. Unless you click on the option of transfer data on your phone, no data can be accessed.
