But, this is the figure given for people who are not addicted to alcohol; these are social drinkers who may take a glass of wine before bed to gulp a few drinks with friends. Imagine the amount drunk by those addicted. One research study with the help of volunteers observed what happens to the body when going alcohol-free for four weeks. The volunteers wanted to see if there were any changes in their physiology, looks and health and the results were shocking.
The first thing that happens is an appetite increase. It is widely known that people eat a lot even when they drink, but when they stop drinking, they will try to keep busy with food. This is the time you need to replace food with natural fruit juices, and fresh fruit or healthy snacks instead like assorted nuts instead.
There is a possibility that when you stop drinking alcohol, your craving for sweet and sugary foods may increase. While Alcohol also can increase blood sugar, it could also create sugar cravings when stopped. However, the reaction is different for everybody and some may find a decrease in blood sugar. This could be a problem for those with diabetes.

Once you quit drinking, you may find it hard to sleep since you have always been reliant on alcohol to sleep faster. However, alcohol also reduces sleep quality so once you move away from alcohol, you may find difficulty in sleeping and also experience nightmares. But don’t stop quitting because there is good news ahead.
There are some people who may experience headaches and this is a signal of bodily changes and the detox from alcohol. This might affect the liver and increase blood pressure. However, at this stage, the body’s level of pain tolerance increases and any pain felt will be reduced. When people drink, their pain tolerance increases and in week 1 of quitting, that ability still remains in the body.
