The Secret Life Of A Cruise Ship Worker That You Did Not Know About
A cruise ship is like a moving hotel on the sea. It comes packed with everything you will need to stay comfortable. The cruise ships we have today are wonders of the modern world. There are some that give you the experience of being at a world class luxurious hotel while at sea.
But, have you ever wondered about the life of the people who work on a cruise ship? The employees make sure your needs are met and you are safe and comfortable? When we look at them from the outside we often think that they have an incredible life. They get to spend all their time on a ship that is a luxurious hotel while visiting exotic locations but there are certain secrets that we do not know about.
1No connection to the outside world
In 2019 it is impossible for any of us to imagine a life without mobile phones and internet connectivity and social media. As you can well imagine, accessing the internet in the middle of a sea or ocean might be difficult. It is possible but still expensive and therefore is restricted only to the passengers. Crew workers have no connection to the outside world until the ship docks somewhere.
2Living conditions are not at all luxurious
While you may be thinking that if the cruises are so luxurious then the crew must be living quite well, you are wrong. The crew cabins are located at the lowest part of the ship, which are mostly underwater. The cabins are also quite congested as all the workers are bundled into the small cabins.
3Workers pretty much have no lives
As expected, people who work on cruise ships don’t have a life. They have to behave extremely decent and orderly. They have no control over their lives as schedules are completely decided by their employers. Even their food and bathroom timings are fixed by the company. Unless you really need a job, want to stay away from the world, or have no life, don’t work on a cruise!
4Work, work, work, work
Everyone loves to chill and unwind on the weekends. After a stressful week at work, we all want a break on weekends. But cruise workers don’t even have this simple pleasure. There are no days off on a cruise ship and this is contract bound. Though they do get some time to themselves, in the form of free hours, there are no weekends.
5They still have fun though
While you may think that they have a sad life without Instagram and Snapchat, that is actually not the case. Cruise ships exist for the purpose of luxury and enjoyment and obviously, the staff gets a share of that too. There are parties on cruise ships almost every night and staff bars serve alcohol at much cheaper prices than guest bars. They sometimes even pull some harmless pranks on the guests.
