Many cultures believe the experience is because of evil djinns, demons and even an incubus sitting on you ready to prey on you while sleeping. 2What happens in Sleep Paralysis?

In sleep paralysis, a person may experience that typical feeling of being frozen and an overwhelming sense of fear and dread.  The body grows motionless with a chilling feeling behind the neck. One cannot even voluntarily control any movement and even though sleep paralysis can’t harm you, it is a frightful experience.  It can also be accompanied by the phenomenon of hypnagogia, the stage between sleep and waking where one may experience auditory, visual and sensory hallucinations. You may find yourself speaking gibberish, reciting or making up poetry or nonsensical conversations. It could well be defined as being in one of Salvador Dali’s surreal paintings.
