Creative Artist Creates An Alien-Inspired Facehugger Mask That Is Out Of This World
Today, masks have become an important part of our lives. They protect us from the world and vice-versa. They are important more than ever before. Everyone from doctors to the police to the civilians are now wearing them through this pandemic. But what happens when someone locked in their home has a love for sci-fi movies and tries to combine that love with a mask? Today, we’ll be seeing the story of James who created a rather unusual mask from leather.
1What is a Facehugger?
The Facehugger is an alien creature introduced by the ‘Alien’ franchise that is now an icon of horror. The Facehugger is a creature that latches itself on to the face of its victims to bury its eggs into the victim’s chest and stomach. It is very iconic and easily recognizable.
2Why is it iconic?
The reason for the iconic status of the movie creature is due to its arachnid-like body design. The movies made it popular but what the creature was used for made it iconic. The creature attacks its prey by jumping on their face. The legs wrap around the head and body presses against the face. In the movies, this was a shocking scene.
Artisanal leatherworker James who works at Pirate’s Leatherworks crafted this beautiful and terrifying Alien-inspired Facehugger mask. Since masks are now needed to enter many businesses as well as to keep yourself safe, he decided to take his to the next level. He had a love for sci-fi movies and ‘Aliens’ so he put them together.
4Why did he make it?
According to James, he isn’t fond of making things for himself. But, since he has to wear a mask every time he stepped outside his house he began thinking. He thought about one of his favorite sci-fi movies ‘Aliens’ and about the Facehugger creature from it. Then he decided to put those two things together.
5It took a long time to make
The mask isn’t simple at all. It comprises of 59 separate parts, all of which were expertly hand-sewn together to create a very realistic Facehugger. It features eight long, finger-like legs and a creepy, spine-like tail. It is a very accurate design and very realistic to look at.
