15 Original Casting Choices For Movies And TV Shows That Will Surprise You
Hollywood is the land of opportunities but every director has a certain actor in mind when casting a role. In many cases, the actor in mind does take the role otherwise auditions are held to cast a new actor. In Hollywood, there are many stories of how a certain actor was given a role and they turned it down. But, later upon release, the movie went on to make huge returns at the box office.
Today, we’re taking a look at 15 actors who turned down roles in movies due to personal conflicts; money-related issues and then regretted the decision as those movies made millions at the box office. There are also TV shows where the original cast was much different from the finished product.
There were three ‘The Mummy’ movies before the 2017 reboot starring Tom Cruise. All three were led by Brendan Fraser as ‘Rick O’Connell’ but something changed in the third movie ‘The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’. In the first two, Rachel Weisz played ‘Evelyn’ but in the third movie, she was replaced by Maria Bello. No one knows why this change was made.
Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe know about this infamous recasting decision. In the 2008 ‘Iron Man’ movie, we saw actor Terrence Howard portray Tony’s best friend James “Rhodey” Rhodes but in the follow-up sequel in 2010, he was replaced by actor Don Cheadle. In interviews, Terrence has stated that it was a money-related issue that Marvel decided to recast his character.
‘Lincoln’ was released in 2012 but the script and work on the movie started way back in 2003. The first casting choice for ‘Lincoln’ was none other than Liam Neeson as he had worked with director Steven Spielberg in the movie ‘Schindler’s List’. But, unfortunately, even after studying the real Lincoln for the role, Liam left the project in 2010 saying he was too old for the role. Finally, the role was given to Daniel Day-Lewis who won an Oscar for his performance.
4Beverly Hills 90210
This show ran from October 4th, 1990, to May 17th, 2000 and had a cult following. Fans did notice when after season 4 when the character of Brenda played by actress Shannen Doherty was replaced without warning with the character of Valerie Malone played by Tiffani Thiessen. The reason behind this change was the attitude of the previous actress Shannen that the whole cast and crew did not like.
This change is one of the recasting choices that the fans did not notice. When the loving couple Mitch and Cam decided to adopt a baby, baby Lily was played by twin sisters Ella & Jaden Hiller. But a few seasons later when the character of Lily was growing up they replaced the twins with Aubrey Anderson-Emmons who was young enough for the recasting to go completely unnoticed.
